David Fokos visits the Island to Photograph!

World renown photographer David Fokos will be visiting the Island this week to photograph for his upcoming show at the Granary Gallery on Martha's Vineyard. Fokos, whose parents are long-time residents of Chilmark, now lives in San Diego, and shows his large format Black and White fine art image at galleries in Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, New York City, Zurich, Switzerland and was most recently shown at the Emon Photo Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. On Martha's Vineyard, his work can be seen at the Granary Gallery in West Tisbury. Many of his images are recognizable spots on the Island, taken with long exposures. Fokos' images look at the world over time and create a very serene often dream-like view of a place or objects. His views of water and sky bring a calming sense to the viewer and the chaotic world that surrounds them.
New work by David Fokos will be shown at the Granary opening on June 24th, 2007, but David will be on the Island this week photographing for that show! His current portfolio can be seen at the Gallery or online.
Ben Cabot's Work Unveiled in Washington.

Island resident and Granary Gallery artist Ben Cabot visited Washington D.C. this January for the unveiling of his Black Granite Raven Post on the campus of George Washington University. This is the fourth piece of Ben's sculptural work that has been installed at the University.
The sculpture was procured by University President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg, who is a fan of Edgar Allen Poe and chose a passage from 'The Raven' to be read at the ceremony. The event took place on January 19th, the anniversary of Edgar Allan Poe's birthday and was unveiled outside of the Old Main Building on F Street.
President Trachtenberg has also become a collector of Ben's work and has installed three other bird statues located at the southeast corner of University Yard, in front of the West End apartment building on Eye Street, and outside Eckles Library on the Mount Vernon Campus. All four acquisitions were the inspiration and contribution of Trachtenberg and created by Martha's Vineyard-based artist Ben Cabot.
"It's a great honor to have my work displayed in such an amazing place with such an amazing history," said Cabot, who was joined at the unveiling by his wife and daughter.
More of Ben's work can be seen by clicking the "View the Exhibition" link at the top of the page.
